Privacy Policy
The short version. Luvella keeps your conversations, memories, and saved moments on your device. There is no account to create. The only data that leaves your phone is the message text needed to generate a reply, which is sent through our secure relay to our AI provider. We don't sell your data, and we don't run third-party advertising or tracking inside the app.

1. Who we are
Luvella ("Luvella," "we," "us," or "our") is a romantic AI companion application for iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is handled, and the choices you have. It applies to the Luvella iOS app and this website at luvella.app.
By downloading or using Luvella, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Information we do not collect
Luvella is designed to need as little of your information as possible. In this version of the app:
- We do not require you to create an account or provide an email address, phone number, or password.
- We do not ask for your real name. Any name or nickname you choose to share is used only to personalize replies and is stored on your device.
- We do not embed third-party advertising networks or social media tracking pixels in the app.
- We do not maintain a server-side database of your conversations, memories, or saved moments.
3. Information stored on your device
Most of what makes Luvella personal is stored locally, in the app's own storage on your iPhone, and is not transmitted to us:
- Conversation history — the messages between you and your companion.
- Memories — the short notes your companion keeps so conversations feel continuous (for example, your name or interests). You can review, edit, or delete these at any time.
- Saved moments — messages you choose to bookmark.
- Companion and personal setup — the companion's name, personality vibe, and texting style, plus any name, interests, or goals you entered during setup.
- Preferences and counters — simple settings and a daily message counter, stored using the device's standard app settings storage.
This information stays on your device unless and until it is needed to generate a reply (see the next section), or until you delete it or remove the app.
4. Information sent for AI processing
To generate a response, Luvella needs to send the relevant parts of your conversation to an AI model. Here is exactly how that works:
- When you send a message, the app transmits your recent message text, your companion's personality settings, and any enabled memories to a relay server we operate on Cloudflare Workers over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection.
- The relay forwards that content to our AI provider, OpenAI, which runs the language model that produces the reply. The reply is returned to your device.
- The AI provider's API key is stored only as a secret on our server. It is never included in the app and never stored on your device.
- To keep requests efficient, only a limited window of recent messages is forwarded with each turn, rather than your entire history.
OpenAI processes this content under its own terms and privacy policy in order to generate the response. We do not use your conversations to train models, and we do not retain a copy of your message content on our relay beyond what is needed to process the request in transit.
5. Safety reports
If you choose to report a message you find inappropriate, Luvella sends a report so we can improve safety. These reports contain sanitized metadata only — for example, a reason category and basic technical details. They do not include the text of your conversation. Reporting is always your choice.
6. Subscriptions and purchases
Luvella offers an optional Premium subscription. Purchases and subscription management are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store and StoreKit. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Your subscription status (whether Premium is active) is determined on your device through Apple's services. Apple's handling of your purchase information is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
7. Third-party services
Luvella relies on a small number of service providers to function:
- OpenAI — generates the AI replies. See OpenAI's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare — operates the relay that securely connects the app to the AI provider. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Apple — distributes the app and processes subscriptions. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
We may also receive aggregate, anonymized statistics from Apple about app installs and crashes through standard App Store reporting. This information does not identify you.
8. Children and age
Luvella is intended for adults and is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority where you live) to use the app. The app presents an age confirmation before use. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has used the app, please contact us so we can help.
9. Retention and deletion
Because your conversations, memories, and moments are stored on your device, you control them:
- You can edit or delete individual memories at any time in the app.
- You can reset the app's onboarding and setup from Settings.
- Deleting the Luvella app from your iPhone removes its locally stored data from the device.
We do not keep a server-side copy of your conversation content to delete on our side, because we do not store it.
10. Security
Data sent between the app, our relay, and the AI provider is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. The AI provider key is held as a server-side secret. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we design Luvella to minimize the data that ever leaves your device.
11. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information, or to object to certain processing. Because Luvella stores your personal content locally and does not maintain accounts, you can exercise most of these rights directly within the app by editing or deleting your data, or by removing the app. For any request you cannot complete in the app, contact us at the address below and we will assist.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the app. Your continued use of Luvella after an update means you accept the revised policy.
